Week 4: Generating Ideas for a New Paragraph

Week 4: Generating Ideas for a New Paragraph

Q Your paragraph due this week is to be inspired by one of the three reading selections assigned in Chapter 14 of Common Ground (pp. 273–278). "Escaping the Fact-Filled World" "Why I'm a Gamer" "With Fantasy, Opportunities are Endless" Often, the hardest part of starting any writing project is deciding what we want to write about. Let's begin this week's discussion by sharing our impressions of these three readings with a goal that further conversation will help us determine the best approach for our own paragraph. Of the three reading selections, which one did you find yourself relating to more closely? Did any of them inspire your own memories or experiences of a fantasy activity?

Q In your first post, please do the following two things. 1) Explain which reading triggered your memory or experience of a fantasy activity and what was the activity you thought of. It may be one mentioned in the readings or not, and it could include video games, fantasy novels, escape rooms, historical reenactments or fantasy football, to name a few. (If you do not relate to any fantasy activity, you may identify and describe a leisure activity of your choice.) 2) List three or four reasons why you think the activity is popular. Later in the week, I will prompt you to engage in some additional prewriting strategies to narrow your topic, construct a topic sentence, and develop support for your paragraph.

I don't play games now but it triggered memories of the last time I did play games. I use to play Guitar Hero, Legends of Rock, on Playstation 2.
